Purchasing a Horse

I was about to ask this question in the Community Classifieds Section but was unsure if it can be included there.

Anyhow, I would like to purchase a horse. I would like to have a thoroughbred just for pleasure riding. What specific breed do you recommend?

I've never bought a full sized horse so I wouldn't like to say. What I do want to recommend is that whatever you decide to buy, please, please, go and meet them first! Spend a little time with them, and you don't click, consider whether or not you will be able to change that situation.

You want a life long relationship, and the horse deserves that.

What do you have in mind for the horse? Is it going to be a horse that is ridden for pleasure or raced?

Or alternatively is it a horse that will be as a companion for you or your family? That being the case, ability to ride long distances, or fast, will not be needed.
