Have You Ever Considered Selling

Have you ever reached the point in your relationship that you contemplated selling your companion? I am still struggling with our issues, and I am not sure that I can resolve them-but at the same time I am not sure I am ready to part with her.

How do I resolve this-help me!

What exactly are you and she having issues with? What have you tried to do in order to fix the problem? I know sometimes it does happen, but if you can find a common ground to help the horse, it would be better than parting with her.

No, the thought has never even crossed my mind!

While I have considered becoming a horse breeder, selling MY current horses was never even an option to me.

Really, I wouldn't even be able to live with myself if I did that!

Nope, the thought has never crossed my mind at all. I have had difficulties but I have dealt with them.

But that is only my personal life, selling might be better for you if you think you aren't able to handle her.

My issues are detailed in other threads. I am unhappy with our stables, unhappy with how she is being treated. But there is no where else locally that I can board her, and short of quitting my job, I cannot currently take her care back myself.

My concerns are for her safety and health and care, not for our relationship.

For the record I cannot quit this job as it would jeopardise my family, and I did not have this job when I bought her. I lost my other, better job, and had to take this instead. If I was in this job at the time I bought her, then I probably wouldn't have.

If it were a dire situation where I could no longer take care of myself, my family or my animals then yes I would. I have never given up on the stubborn ones though and I have a couple that are for view and pleasure only, never ridden as they have never been broken.

Sadly enough, I had to not only contemplate it, but had to go through with it as well. My beautiful mare, Josephine, frightened my son when he was young, and he hasnt ever gotten over it. He does not have a fear of horses in general, just her. She's gentle, but was frightened one day that he was riding her, and she bucked, and he fell off and got the wind knocked out of him. He is great on the other horses we have, but has as a horrible fear of her. We sold her to a neighbor, so we knew she would be well taken care of, and can still see her on a regular basis. But, it was too traumatic for both of them to keep her. He would be shy around her, and she knew it, and thought she'd done something wrong. It was a horrilby sad time!

I've also had to do it. Not because we were having issues, but because we'd moved so many times, and after having several children, I hadn't had much time for her. When we were facing another cross country move I decided to sell her to the people who were boarding her and loved her. It broke my heart, but I knew she wouldn't be happy with another move.

I've never had to ponder this, but I would have to sit back and think logically about what is best for the horse. If its in their best interest to not be with you but with an owner with deeper pockets and a fancy stable then perhaps you need to sell her. If you have a family and their needs are placed above hers financially I think you may have already made the decision you just don't want to admit it. Its painful, but in the end its not fair to her to live somewhere they don't take care of her and not get to spend enough time with you as you obviously care more about her than the barn workers/owners.
