Funny Story

Has anything funny ever happened to you while you've been out riding? For me it was when I was about 10 years old. My grandfather (from the city) had tried to saddle my horse for me. It just so happened that he didn't cinch it up tight enough and after riding only a few steps the saddle slid to the right and I did with it. Of course, it wasn't funny at the time but when I look back I think it must have been pretty funny to see me rolling right off the horse.

That must have been a sorry situation to be in! I can't help but worry about things like that happening. Who is to say that the person taking care of you will get it right? It must be easier once you are in control yourself.

I had the same thing happen to me, only it was when I was a preteen and just taking over doing it myself. I gues I was afraid I'd hurt the horse... I learned my lesson after that one!

Got on backwards the first time

For all those of you who think it only happens in the movies, let me tell you that it really does happen. Or maybe it's just me and my klutziness. I was 10 and thought I knew how to get on but I started out with the wrong foot in the stirrup and ended up facing the horse's tail. My uncle and cousins laughed at me and teased me for weeks about that one. I was so embarrassed it took my aunt two months to get me to even go near the horses again.

I once rode a friends horse in my early teen years. For some reason this horse was acting funny that day and I ended up in a mud puddle about 6" deep. I wasn't injured and the horse just stood there and the friend laughed.
