For those of you looking for a horse

I was poking around craigslist looking in the farm and garden area for fencing materials and I noticed quite a few posts for horses, both for sale and for leasing. If you haven't checked your local craigslist you might want to . I had no idea they allowed animal selling on there.

Craigslist allows the selling of farm animals/livestock in the farm and garden section only. In the pets section they are limited to "reasonable rehoming/adoption fees" which should never match the value of an animal. Although plenty of the animals in the farm section are pretty pitiful and have low prices as well. And classified ad logic comes into play as well. If it says one thing it may easily mean another completely.

I was unaware of this too and a little bothered by learning about it. I never like when animals can be sold in this manner-advertised to just about anybody without any checks being run on the person. At least the humane society runs checks.

I agree that its not really a good thing. So many of these animals are likely to go cheaper than they would otherwise, and that would tend to worry me that the new owner couldn't afford to keep one. I mean if you can't afford to buy it, you can't afford to keep it either.

Yes, I could see how it could be an issue, but on the other hand, how can a private owner sell their animal? I know I sold a horse before by an ad in the paper. I met with the people interested and went with my gut feeling (and a person who writes to me and send pictures of my old horse).
