Feds propose to euthanize mustangs

There is a link at the bottom for the complete story. If you are as outraged as I am, contact the organizations listed or your Congressman or any animal agency that may be able to work against this proposal.

What problems are the horses causing when left in the wild? I don't see why they have to be rounded up at all, it doesn't make sense. Unless they are causing huge harm, let them be.

Thanks for making me aware of this.

There have always been issues with wild horses in the wild based on the space being used by cattle ranchers. Horses compete for the same food supply which means less food for the cattle and less poundage for the beef barons.

While I do understand the reasoning. I'm not much of a beef eater so I'm not uber upset over a horse stealing some food from a cow. Are we going to start putting down anything that comes near a cows feeding grounds.

Oh, that's terrible!

I can understand there are issues with overpopulation given that people have taken so much land away that many animals are losing their natural habitats. I would think they could find a better way than just killing the poor beasts though. I know there are organizations that arrange for mustang adoptions. If there aren't enough takers here, perhaps they could start training them and selling them to other countries or something.

Its not a matter of "feeding grounds" its a matter of personal property and mustangs being viewed in the same light as coyotes or wolves. Ranchers have always viewed anything that didn''t help them as something to be exterminated. Since there is such a lack of food, water, and shelter to start with in many of these areas having the cows compete with mustangs isn't exactly positive.

I'd rather they find other ways to deal with mustangs myself, but our past dealing with them have been less than humanitarian in many ways.

Did anyone write to show support?

I'm hoping that at least a few of you will take a minute to send an email showing that you are against the wholesale slaughter of the mustangs. If you have any alternative suggestions at all, include them in the email, too.

This is horrible! How sad to think that something as beautiful as a Mustang would be put down just because it exists! I can understand the overpopulation problem, but what about deer? Where I live we are tremendously overpopulated with deer even though people do hunt them during deer season. But you don't see the government going out and putting them down. I think all of God's creatures are beautiful and have a purpose. If the overpopulation problem is that terrible then America needs to come up with another alternative to solving it.

I will definitely be raising the grass in my community about this! That is awful, a horse is not like a coyote at all. They’re not picking off the animals, just taking some of the food supply.

Wow, it doesn’t matter what their reasoning is, it doesn’t make it right. There aren’t many wild breeds left so why can’t they just leave them alone? Maybe drive them away from their properties instead of killing them off.
