Do you horse race?

I have never tried it before, but I know a lot of horse owners DO.

How about you? I have considered it before, but I don't know if I ever will.

No, I have never tried horse racing either. And to be honest, I feel it's abusive to the horse a bit. No disrespect meant to anyone who does it, but some people push their horse way too hard.

I never did any races, and I do not thing that my daughter will in any near future. My grandfather did attend a lot of smaller races and did pretty good with his horse.

I would much rather horse back ride through the country than race.

I've thought of horse racing, but after reading Speed Demon's reply, it makes a lot of sense really. Doing all that for people's amusement and excitement. What is the horse getting? Some attention? Okay, then it gets put back in it's stable and left alone for a period of time and moved around again - and the process repeats. If the horse gets hurt, it most likely will get put down if the injury is bad enough.

Yeah, the whole "put down if injured or too old" crap are some of my biggest problems with horse racing. At the very least, they should see to it that the horses go to good homes if they can no longer race.

Yeah, I never liked that side of horse racing myself

Either way, there are some racers who do care for their horses even with old age or injury.

I could never put my horse into a race. I just find it un-ethical. I have a special relationship with my horse.

I always got the impression that some horses enjoy racing. Is that not true? Don't some of them enjoy racing against each other? Or is that just Hollywood giving horses a human competitiveness?

That's the only problem though - we can't really tell haha. But of course a creature / being has to find some sort of competition, but in this case, this is man-made competition (as we know it). Don't animals just fight over the female; thus being the competition?
