Do you believe that Unicorns could have existed?
To many, Unicorns are nothing more than a mythical type of horse that could never exist. HOWEVER compared to many other mythical creatures, are horses really so outlandish? I personally feel that Unicorns COULD have existed, although I feel that many of the stories about them are nothing more than fables.
Has anyone else given this any real thought? |

I have thought from time to time that they could have been real. Every story comes from a base of fact, doesn't it? How are we to know that unicorns weren't an extinct race of horse? I personally think that unicorns used to exist but are now extinct or have evolved.

Unicorns only look like a horse.
They have a head resembling that of a fine boned horse with one horn, cloven feet like that of a goat or deer and the tail of a lion. So they're not really horses in any way, they just look like them. |

I have never believe them to be anything more than a romantic myth. But at that time I hadn't read about horses bred with zebras and that they had goat features too.
I wonder if maybe, there was once a hybrid of a goat with a miniature horse? Maybe it would have had some of those features, including the horn. |

As my username suggests, I love to read and watch a movie involving unicorns. In Harry Potter, it was told that they give you immortal life, but its a half life, if you drink the blood of a unicorn.
Althoug I love unicorns, I don't believe that they really exist in the real world. They only exist in the fantasy world along with other creatures like pegasi and centaurs. |

We can't really know for sure when scientists could bred a horse that has a horn in its forehead. Everything that is in the science fictions, the scientists are trying to make it into real life. Time will tell when we will actually see a real life unicorn.

I hope no one ever tries to create one. It is scary when we want to change the created creatures of this world, just for the sake of doing it.
Playing iwth Gods creation is dangerous, Unicorns are part of fantasy and fairytale land and should stay there. |

I think that makes us humans, being creative. This thread http://www.equineboard.com/horse-bre...zebra-343.html
talks about breeding horses with zebras. There might come a time when a mad scientist will breed a horse and a goat. |

That is a pretty good idea you have going on there. Its always nice to believe, who knows maybe they did evolve to what we now know as horses. Rhinos have horns too you know, makes you wonder.... |

Lmao now there's a thought! Horses mating with Rhinos-that would be quite the feat of gymnastics.
I think that unicorns were just a myth of the time of the Knights who supposedly did so much good. |

You couldn't breed a horse and a goat together- they are too far appart evolutionarily. A horse is closer to rabbits and, yes, the rhinos. Goats are ruminants and there are big differences in digestion.

Just thinking about this...it's possible that LONG ago, there could have been some animal resembling a horse that had a horn or growth of some sort on it's forehead, used for foraging or something that it simply outgrew the use for and the growth eventually dissolved away as it's need did. Just as we have changed ourselves and so have many other animals as the needs of our bodies have? And some long ago artist drew that animal on a cave...lol. And the myth began! Just a thought?

As far as archaeologists are concerned, there have been no evidence that a horse with a horn exists. But the possibility of a unicorn be bred someday can be possible. Science is leaping forward in the future with all its experiments and there might come a news that they have bred a unicorn type of a horse. For what purpose, I have no idea.
