I know it's so cliche... I'm just wondering how true it is! When you were a little girl, did you ask for a pony? I know I did, but my parents both rode horses, so it didn't seem that "out there".

No, I didn't. I was fairly young when I started being around them, but I was realistic as to what the family could and couldn't afford. There just seemed no point, as it would only result in disappointment.

I always asked for a pony. Never got one and I knew I wasn't going to. It always reminded my parents that I hadn't "grown out of it" yet though like they had hoped I would. I normally got horse/pony themed presents like books or toys instead of the real thing.

I never bothered. My mother hated most animals and everything that had to do with farms. I didn't see the point in asking. I always wondered where I got my affinity for anything four legged.

We always had horses around when I was growing up, either our own or family, so I guess it never occurred to me to ask for a pony. If I had thought to ask, I would have went straight for a horse not a pony, anyway.

Yes I did ask and no I did not get one. I don't think kids really think of how expensive a horse can be, even a pony. Its good I didn't get one, thinking back on it now I would not have know where I would have kept it!

I never got one either but it was my birthday and Christmas wishes for several years. Now I realize how expensive it would have been for my parents to add on an animal that "didn't serve a working purpose" as they used to put it.

yeah, when I was a child I had no concept of how much a pony cost, and how much money my parents made.

purplefdu - my family did the same thing, always buying me horse themed gifts. One year my parents bought me a big stuffed animal horse and I was so upset it wasn't the real thing! Must have been 7 or 8 at the time.

I asked, a lot. But I never got one. I did get pony rides at the fairs and horse themed gifts, but never the real thing. I still don't have one yet. Maybe this summer I can give my daughter what she asked for.

I never asked because I never wanted one when I was younger. In fact I pretty much couldn't stand horses when I was a young girl, certainly I had no interest in them. I am sure that my parents were very thankful for that!
