Flying a Horse
This is not a pegasus.
![]() I mean is it ok for horses if they will be loaded in a plane for transport? I know that the conventional way to transport a horse is by a trailer on land and by ship on water. I assume that if a horse needs to be flown, it should be place under sleep because horses are so nervous and uneasy on transports. |

I could see you flying a miniature, but not a full sized horse. The forces of gravity on take off and landing would be too much for them, it just wouldn't be safe.
There are many risks when sedating a horse for any length of time, so I would think that just for a flight it would be an unacceptable risk. |

I would also avoid flying a horse. I've read too many things put out by PETA regarding flying small animals, I could never do it to a horse! (or any of my cats!) I never considered the forces of gravity during take off/landing, but that's just another good reason not to do it. I think it would be miserable for the horse.

Plenty of horses are flown every year for things like races especially. There are planes specially adapted to carry horses, with stalls laid out. People fly with them for their comfort, and I would guess that they are ok most of the time or this wouldn't happen.
However I do not agree with the practise. |

The problem I would imagine is there size. You cannot make a seat for them to sit in which means that take off and landing their full weight is subjected to increased forces of gravity. If you hit turbulence-then what?! There aren't seatbelts big enough for horses, so the horse could be thrown all over the place. Perfect set up for BIG injuries.
