Cleaning the stalls out

I am sure this this is no ones favorite task but when you are alloting work with your family if you run a farm is it always one person or do you trade it up?

I find at many barns the same people always do stalls, especially if its a family run barn. Poor guy marries a horse-crazy gal who talks him into building a barn for her horse, then suckers him into a couple to teach lessons or boarders to help pay the bills and next thing he knows he's mucking up after 5 horses he doesn't even like that much, lol. You have to also take into account how well someone does stalls. Even if they are willing it doesn't do much good if they have to be cleaned up after.

Whoever owns the animal

In our house, whoever owns the animal takes care of it and cleans up after it as necessary so I'm the stall mucker around here...lol. I don't mind horse poo though; chickens are way smellier. I had friends who owned a chicken farm with three large barns. That was one nasty odor, let me tell you.

I do mine

It's just me right now so there isn't anyone to share the work with but two horses aren't that difficult to clean up after, anyway. I also have a dog and a couple of barn cats running around but they're easy to care for, too. The cats barely acknowledge me - they've been running around on their own since birth, really. They really are great mousers, though, so occasionally I end up having to dispose of a rodent or two.

Here, we share the responsibility. We no longer have our horse but we all did it all. It takes a lot less time if you have three or four sets of hands to help. However, the more manual jobs are set aside for the adults to do.

I like the idea of everyone taking turns. When I grew up and we shared a pet we all took part in all the duties. I dont think there is any reason it should be a one man deal, unless in your case Morgan you gotta.

We don't all ride in our family, and it is the people who ride who take responsibility. We are the ones who have the fun, we are the ones who should pay the price.

The aunt and uncle we have taken turns in their family and since they also have grandkids they help out when visiting as well (its good to have five at once with extra help around the farm).
