I have one right now and while she is still kind of a "baby" she is very odd. She gets along with my daughter just fine, who happens to be in a screaming/high pitched anything stage, and the cat is fearless. I would be running away to hide but not this one, she just sits and listens as though she can understand the baby talk.

Cats tolerate things better if exposed from an early age. Having a young kitten around a young child is far better than exposing an elderly cat to a young child-then there are risks of the child getting hurt too by the get getting really cheesed off by having it's tail pulled!

I personally think cats are odd to start with. Such a wide range of behaviors and characters they are. maybe she thinks your daughter is trying to speak cat?

I have always lived with some cats, and I have quite the peculiar bunch right now, and they are almost atypical for cats.

None of them meow in the typical sense, but they make other voices like a "me" or a "mew" and sounds like that.

In fact, I have this one cat who speaks so many variations it's almost like she has her own complete language.

We have a cat who can be quite vicious! We got him from a cat protection league when he was just 6 weeks old. At the time the warden told us he was the last of the litter (that should have warned us!) and that they'd found him and his siblings in an outhouse at a farm - meaning, they were probably half wild!

We've had him now for about 8 years and my husband bears the brunt of most of pussy's attacks! I think this is probably because he handles the cat more than I do. I'm just very wary of him (the cat not my hubs!) I feed him and pet him when he's docile but I don't get too friendly!

Even if the cat comes looking for affection - head butting your hand, that kind of thing - he can still suddenly turn on you and grab a hand in his teeth and/or claws.

Wonder why that is?

Not sure why that is going on but I knew a friend had a similar cat that acted the same, two now that I am thinking of it. Both were Siamese, maybe its their breed?

We adopted a cat in December from a rescue mission and got very lucky. He's an adult cat, 7 years they estimated, but he's extremely good with the kids. Doesn't barely blink at the screeching, and lets the 1 year old pick him up (or try anyway).

Between my girlfriend and I we have 4 cats. 2 males 2 females. We plan to get a dog as well eventually. But a puppy so it will get used to having the cats around.

Cats are just so much easier to deal with. There's a reason they've become the number one house pet. Less maintenance, they love you no matter how much time you spend with them or how much attention you give them. heh.

I have that one cat who constantly licks my hands, and then bites them.

She was raised in the wild, but she is surprisingly gentle overall.

Outside of her being very stubborn and territorial, she is one of the friendliest cats I have ever seen.

The biting thing I think is just part of her grooming I think, like how cats bite their own fur to fix it up.

The one we have now as the only inside cat is still a little one and Calico. The two ourside I think are mixed with begal (tiger type) and normal alley cat. One that doesnt say anything he is quite shy and we see him maybe once a month, hes a loner. His brother is just like their mother (passed now) and extremly vocal. Very odd mix here too.

Some cats are just odd. One of our cats, who we found as a kitten in the parking lot, very rarely cries. It's the weirdest thing. He's not shy at all, he just doesn't cry. He makes noise sometimes, like a cry but without opening his mouth... but usually only meow's when he's hurt.

I had a cat that used to suck my earlobes. She was taken from her mother too soon and had issues with suckling still, needed the comfort from those that she loved. Actually I really kind of liked it-it was cute.

We had a few cats who would always try to chew on my hair, which could be a bit odd...but I got used to it.

I think there was some specific word to describe that behavior, but I forget what it was now.

Either way, I believe it was meant to be a friendly gesture.

Our cat has started howling a lot! He's not off his food and he doesn't appear to be in any pain but for some time now he's been very vocal.

Usually he does it when he comes into the house first thing in the morning after he's been out all night. He'll eat a little of his food, have a wander round the house howling, then he'll go back and eat a bit more, have another wander and a bit of a howl, we shout "For goodness sake!" and he settles down!

If we're out in the garden and he comes to join us, he'll have a bit of a howl then, too!

I have never heard of a cat howling, are you sure the cat isn't in heat or anything? I love all animals but I really love having an outside cat, no kitty box in the house to deal with.
