Buying the Right Horse

Especially if you buy a young horse, how do you know that you are making the correct purchase? How can you be sure that horse and rider will be compatible down the line?

There is no way to tell if you will be compatible down the line. There is no way to guarantee you will not outgrow your horse's potential at some point in their lifetime. Its just the way life works.

As for the initial time of purchase, test rides, evaluation of said rides with your instructor who knows your style and can judge a horse well and make guesses about the potential of you and the horse will help, but not be perfect. Buying younger horses unless you've come close to finishing your own training can be hard, as you can only go on what seems to e likely for the horse's potential. However many riders may outgrow their horse's abilities at some point unless the horse is as talented as they are.

Can you bring a vet to the selling of a horse to have it looked over, like you would almost with a mechanic and a new car you are purchasing? I just wonder if this is allowed or not.
