Are there still 4H programs?
A friend of mine was in 4H group growing up in rural Maine. She learned to ride and care for horses through that organization as well as working with other animals. I haven't heard anything about 4H since I was a kid so am wondering if the organization is still in operation?

We have 4H fairs around here that I attend fairly often.
Every time I go, I really enjoy myself too ! There are always many exciting things for me to see and do, along with some arts and crafts and such. The next one can't come long enough! |

4-H, FFA, and Pony Club are all still common, although may not be as highly publicized in non-agricultural areas. A simple search on http://www.4-h.org/ should turn up your closest group or what it would take to start one.

Thanks for the answers
Especially thanks to haute_ecole for the great link. There are three groups not too far from me. I'm going to give the information to a couple of friends who wanted to find something like this for their children to get involved with. One of them has a 6-year old daughter who is quite determined to become a vet someday. She already brings in strays to take care of.

We still have 4-H fairs around here regularly, but I have not been to one for about two years now.
The next time they do one, I am planning on trying to go however. They have always been enjoyable for me, and i'm sure my next one will be as well. |

4-H is not often attached to schools like FFA. Sometimes it is, but FFA is more likely to be seen, long with other "future" programs. Its normally pretty easy to get a 4-H program started, kind of like scouting. You need some people to participate and a willing sacrifice-I mean parent to lead them. More than one is preferable.
