Alergic to horses?

Does anyone know anybody who is unfortunate enough to be alregic to horses? I know of many people who are alergic to other animals such as dogs and cats, but don't hear much about horse alergies. Would they be alergic to thehorse itself or to a grooming product or something else on the horse?

Not exactly no. A friend of mine in school was allergic to just about any animal, but being around horses she was fine. If there was a farm that had horses and other animals, she was allergic to the rest though. Can horses get dander like dogs and cats?

Nobody that I know or am related to that has any allergies brought on by Horses, but I suppose some people can be allergic to any kind of animal including Horses sadly

Could you imagine being allergic to a Horse, and still desperately wanted to own one?

That would be tough.

I am allergic to a lot of animals-cats and dogs and birds and so on. But horses have never caused me any sniffles yet, and I think I am around them enough that I shouldn't develop anything now I hope.

Most people are allergic to dander in some animals, just not enough to notice. Horses do indeed have dander just like cats, dogs, birds, bunnies, etc. If you ever have the fun (sarcasm intended) of having an allergy panel done they normally test for a half dozen popular domesticated animals.

Most animal allergies are not from the fur but the dander. Dander is from the saliva, basically dried spit. I don't think horses groom themselves by licking so I wouldn't think they would cause many allergies from dander. There would probably be more allergies to the products used than the actual horse, although horse allergies likely do exist. I'm just glad I'm not one of them.

Well, I have owned a number of different kinds of animals and have fortunately never suffered allergies from it. Certain plants and flowers however, are an entirely different story!

To be honest, sometimes I take it as an insult towards my pets when people use the word "dander" I always hated that word.
