Adopt a mustang for $125

I'm not sure that you'd have to live in Virginia to do this or not but it's interesting. I think it's wonderful that they give people the opportunity to handle and care for one of these beautiful creatures. I've always thought the mustang herds were the last little bit of the wild west still to be found. Link to full story is below quote for those who are interested.

The U.S. Department of Interior’s Bureau of Land Management Eastern States announced Tuesday that it will offer for adoption 70 wild horses and some burros at the Virginia Horse Center in Lexington from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on March 29.

Nice

I would not consider buying a mustang as I am not knowledgeable enough about training a horse but I think they are beautiful animals. When I was a kid traveling cross country to California, we saw a mustang herd and the image stuck with me. Just the most beautiful and awe-inspiring sight that I have ever seen.

That is good news to hear that many are getting involved in this type of thing. I wish I lived closer, but I am sure many that miss out will have the chance again if it ends up being a good outcome.

I'm assuming you have to live in Virginia because of restrictions placed by the bureau thats adopting them out. Other mustang adoption programs don't have the same state restriction although many have shelter and fence requirements meant to help you and your new pal live together peacefully through the training phase.

Other states have similar programs?

I wasn't aware of that. I always thought mustangs were only found out west so was surprised to see that Virginia had a program like this. I think it's a great way to keep the herd in good shape and giving people the opportunity to work with one of these beautiful animals.

Although the cost of adopting is cheap, I have a different point of view regarding this. Let the mustangs remain wild. Are there not enough domesticated horses to own? I would rather support buying a piece of protected land for them to freely roam.
