music and horses
My dad always swore that the horses we had on the ranch loved listening to different types of music. He would play country (old-school country, not the newer stuff that is more rock) for them on a regular basis, but when they were hurt, he would change it to rhythm and blues, and when one was about to birth, he would play softer music, like, water sounds. Any thoughts?

I think that horses would enjoy music, even have preferences for ceratain types. I've seen other animals show pleasure for music. My canary for instance, will sing really loud and long if I play soft rock, and only soft rock. Music is relaxing. I've heard that even plants grow better to music.

My old horse loved classical music, but would always get really wound up if I played Mozart.
She seemed particularly fond of Debussey. Sometimes I would take my violin out and play for her, and she seemed to like it even though I am less than a virtuouso. ![]() |

I don't see why not. I bet they have preferences like us too. Maybe country music became a cowboy type music because the horses liked it, not because the humans did. It would be funny, though, to see a horse rocken' to metallica LOL.
