I did stretch before getting on, including the dozen stalls and manure pile trips prior to riding, lol. The problem is I can't recall how to engage the muscles used for riding as opposed to walking or sitting. Its a different set of muscles, which is why it hurts. I walk and clean and work outside in the garden all the time, but you just don't use the same muscles. Its mostly some in the inner thigh, my calves felt fine. But other than straddling my sofa I can't think of anything that will stretch them before getting back on again.
