Centered Riding by Sally Swift. I don't think I could have survived without her insights. I hear the second one is good as well, but I haven't bought it yet. Still waiting to get back riding and then I'll pick it up.

I also had a couple by Linda Tellington Jones explaining the TTouch and TTeam training methods for your horse. I went to a weekend seminar for TTouch and was hooked. And it compliments the Centered Riding approach I was already using at the time.

I also had a pocket guide to horse breeds by one of the "guide book" companies which had most of the breeds at the time. I'm not sure any book can list every breed in existence, as some are quite rare and might not warrant listing in some publisher's eyes.
