I've never seen anything but standardbreds in trotting races. They are big business where I am and we normally go to them once a year. Please train the horse to do more than trotting though, and to bend in both directions. We've reconditioned a couple for riding after they came from claim races or auction and they were stiff as boards and only bended well in the direction they were raced on the track. It made me a little sick that people only trained enough to race the horse since even a good race horse doesn't have a long career and most don't last that long and need to be able to go on to riding homes.
